I used to think innovation was something grand, something that came from big plans and bigger budgets. That changed when I joined a local project aimed at improving schools. The word innovation filled every meeting, yet nothing in the classrooms seemed different.

Then I met Rukhsana, a science teacher working in a tiny room with almost no equipment. When I asked her what innovation meant, she said it was simply finding a new way to make her students curious. Later, I watched her use bottle caps and scraps of paper to explain chemical reactions. The students were completely drawn in. No technology, just imagination and care.

That moment showed me that real innovation is often quiet. It is not about being modern but about being meaningful and using whatever you have to create change.

So when we talk about innovation today, are we valuing the word or the people who actually bring it to life?

This is 100 percent true. True innovation is born out of a determination to solve real problems meaningfully. I also believe the muscle for innovation is exercised in daily life, in daily work and daily problem solving. There are many Rukhsana in hidden places. May we be like them!

It’s often the simplest things that drive real change and results and bring innovation — because simplicity resonates with everyone. Whether it’s a simple yet tough problem to solve, simple yet powerful content to read, or simple, thoughtfully designed solutions to everyday challenges, simplicity always wins.

            Well put, Shagufta!

Innovation for me is almost a mindset. It can often just mean a shift in perspective, openness to trying new ways of doing, bringing new/ the right people into conversations.

The word innovation is often misinterpreted. Innovation is new way of doing things to make life simpler or hassle free. Often the context is merged with the concept of automation or digitization. When it comes to valuing then often this is debatable. The impact of innovation is valued at times vs the innovation and Vica versa.

A powerful reminder that innovation doesn’t always require complexity, sometimes the simplest approaches create the most meaningful impact.

Innovation is often talked about as reinventing the wheel 🛞. We focus heavily on the word itself and the outcomes it promises, sometimes forgetting the people who actually bring it to life.

Your post is both timely and grounding. Working in digital transformation, I’ve found myself caught up in processes, projects, and measurable outcomes, assuming that innovation must always look complex or technological. This reflection was a powerful reminder that the real game changers are people their creativity, curiosity, and willingness to do more with less.

Thank you for bringing the conversation back to what truly matters and for reminding us that meaningful innovation often starts quietly, with people on the ground making small but powerful changes.
