While growing up, you suddenly start noticing things. Women working in the kitchen while everyone’s sitting outside. You see young moms struggling, young girls being body-shamed, underpaid women in the workforce and trolling of women online.
These are some of the things that you start noticing and think about “is this really the world I’m growing up in?”
Unfortunately, that is true. World has put limitations on a women’s way of living. But can we change that ? Yes. We all are the living examples of it. To break the barriers and be someone we always wanted to be and that’s how we lead, in our own unique ways.
So, how can we change the perception of the world of ‘women’ being just the caretakers ? How can we un-learn the ways we were always taught by the world on “how to be a woman”.

I really love that you brought this up. A friend and I were recently discussing how the “normal images” we grow up seeing, like men being the only ones in leadership positions, can shape how children perceive success. Over time, success begins to look like men, or even worse, children start to think success for women is less than what it is for men. I’m unlearning the messages the world taught me about being a woman by boldly and openly sharing my dreams, achievements, and aspirations. In doing so, I show younger girls what is possible and attainable.

Inspiring younger girls and other women and openly sharing your opinions and dreams is definitely a great way of unlearning the messages the world taught you. Loved your point of view!

This is such an interesting reflection. As I think hard and deeply about this, I realise that I grew up in a household where I always saw my mother lead- take decisions, set norms and standards and be the authority figure but not sure it was described or even seen as leadership in a positive light. It was seen more as stepping in, taking more space than needed, seeming overbearing and overconfident. Its amazing how so much of leadership is linked to the masculine

That is so true. The world’s perception towards leadership is linked to the masculine. Let’s hope that, in the future, the world links leadership to a leader’s mindset rather than their gender.

Madhura, you raised such an important point. I feel, we collectively should continue to share our voices at various platforms. We have to share our stories and experiences. We are the ones who can bring change for next generation.
