One thing we consistently hear from Explorers on Women Emerging expeditions and WE Fellows, is how important it is for more women to discover their own approach to leading.
Leading looks different for each woman, and when women discover their approach to leading that resonates with who they are, more of them choose to step forward and lead. That’s why we created DIY expeditions.
DIY (Do-It-Yourself) expeditions enable individuals or organisations to convene and run their own Women Emerging expedition, inviting women in their organisations or communities to explore leadership using the Women Emerging expedition methodology, while connecting to a wider global movement.Â
Women Emerging runs expeditions and not programmes, because expeditions are brave and bold, curious and creative, ambitious, uplifting, raw, unpredictable and personal to each Explorer and group.Â
They are built to focus on the context around a sector, organisation, community, geography, generation, city, or all of them together.
This is because leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all.Â
A DIY expedition is a group expedition, run by a woman, a community or an organisation using the Women Emerging expedition methodology. These are typically run for up to 24 women over five months. However, organisations or individuals delivering Women Emerging’s DIY expedition can modify that to align with the numbers and timings of the group.Â
A woman, a network of women, or an organisation buys access to the Women Emerging methodology, to run a DIY expedition. Â
The organiser brings together a group of women from their organisation or community and identifies an Expedition Leader and the Community Manager.Â
The expedition sets off using the 4Es methodology discovered on the first Women Emerging expedition and perfected on expeditions ever since. The organiser chooses whether to run the expedition online, in person, or in a blended format, based on what best suits the group. Â
During the expedition, Explorers are invited to connect to the wider WE Community, drawing on shared learning and collective insight.
At the end of the expedition, Explorers find their own approach to leading and have an opportunity to share their insights widely on the WE Hub and inspire more women to lead.Â
DIY Expeditions are for individual, communities or organisations which:Â
They do not need prior experience of running a Women Emerging expedition but may have a desire to contribute to the global shift in leadership.Â
Why choose DIY?Â
DIY expeditions are designed to:Â
